“Vengeance Is Mine…” Saith The Lord

Have you ever been hurt, cheated or oppressed by someone older, more privileged or superior to you in position…and you feel like fighting back…or you feel like holding and strangulating the person or doing something evil to him/her? If yes, then you are not alone on this.

A number of times, I have had to deal with this acts of wickedness and man’s inhumanity to man. I do not know how you handled or used to handle such ungodly and arrogant display of power. For me, I have learnt from experience, that the best approach was to “fight back” with a power that CANNOT be subdued…a power that is above EVERY other power…a power that sent a “Goliath” down to the ground after so much boasting and arrogance (1 Sam 17)…a power that turned lions into friends of a child of God (Daniel 6)…a power that slaughtered thousands of Egyptians without a fight (Exodus 14)…a power that split the mighty red sea into two without any physical contact(Exodus 14) ….a power that brought down a mighty wall with just singing (Joshua 6)….a power that made a ninety year old woman to become a mother (Gen 21)…a power that did all I have shared on my blog including keeping the heart of my younger brother beating without blood in his body for days !!! That power is the unfailing, fearsome and superior POWER OF GOD through PRAYERS!!!

Prayer works dear friend. Man will forever think and act like one. God knows everything and everyone better. He knows the best approach to handle every oppression and acts of wickedness. He does not make mistakes. He knows our oppressors more than we do. There are no regrets whenever He is involved in our affairs.

So, rather than pay evil for evil or fight a fight you do not know how it would end or which you may not be able to win….report the matter to GOD in prayer and fasting. God has a beautiful way of humbling those who chose to ignore the fact that power comes from God (Psda 75:6-7). He knows the best “punishnent” your oppressor deserves.

So, go to Him in fasting and prayers. Safe yourself the stress of crying and being in sorrow. Safe yourself from wasting energy…..

“So Judah gathered together to seek help from the LORD;

they even came from all the cities of Judah to seek the LORD….

Thus says the Lord to you, “Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude,

for the battle is not yours but God’s

– 2 Chronicles 20:15

For the Lord Himself has said…..

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves,

but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written,

Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

– Romans 12:19

“He(Goliath) said to David, “Come here. I’ll feed your body to the birds of the air and the wild animals!”

But David said to him, “You come to me using a sword and two spears.

But I come to you in the name of the Lord All-Powerful,

the God of the armies of Israel! You have spoken against him….

So David defeated the Philistine with only a sling and a stone.

– 1 Sam 17

May the hand of God continue to guide us in all our decision making in Jesus name, amen !

Between Doing Good And Ingratitude

I lived with my wonderful parents for 27 years. In all of those years I learnt a lot from them. One of such things was the “art of doing good” to people.

My parents insisted it stayed that way even if the beneficiary did not deserve it. According to them such acts of kindness and generosity to our fellow human beings will attract the aura of good tidings, and very importantly, the favour and mercies of God towards us. Even the Bible supports this as so many parts of the Bible talks about doing good to our fellow human beings and the benefits that go with it. The Bible also has so many accounts of the good deeds of our Lord Jesus Christ to people when He was on earth, even when they did not deserve it.

Another good thing about doing good to others was this inner peace and joy that comes with every act of kindness, especially when the beneficiary shows appreciation.

It is because of all these (and more) that I have always tried, sometimes against my wish, to reach out a hand of kindness, goodwill or generosity to those who need it. I have to confess that trully, it pays to do good; and it has been really encouraging.

However, a feeling of regret comes in when an act of kindness is paid back with hate, malice and wickedness. You begin to wish you had kept your kind heart to yourself. You begin to wonder why the happiness and gratitude that is supposed to greet an act of kindness, within seconds, turns to hate, malice and wickedness. At that point, you become confused, angry and wish that the hands of time can be turned back. Then you make up your mind that if you had the same opportunity again, you will certainly “play safe.”

I would not blame you if that is the way you feel. Cos sometimes it really pays to “play safe.” It is a matter of studying the kind of people you have around you. For some, acts of goodwill are really appreciated; for some, acts of goodwill must be done with caution, if you do not want to blame yourself later. People like this can disconnect you from God. They make you regret doing good. They make you think of stop doing good. They give you reasons, from their conduct, why you should also have a bad heart.

Then, in the middle of this confusion, you stop and ask yourself “what if God stops doing good to me because of my sins?” I chose not to ponder over this scary question!

So, it’s a matter of choice for you and I – listen to the voice of God and continue to reap the benefits or allow an ingrate to disconnect you from the mercies, favour and treasures of God….

May God guide and I to chose well in Jesus name, amen.

Thanks for your time.
